The United Arab Emirates has introduced three new initiatives in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF) aimed at advancing innovation, technology policy, and youth leadership. These efforts were unveiled by Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, during the opening plenary of the WEF Annual Meeting of Global Future Leaders.
One of the flagship programs is the Global Innovation Challenge, which will focus on agentic artificial intelligence—a form of AI capable of autonomous decision-making and action. This challenge includes a $1 million prize and invites participation from approximately 10,000 Global Shapers spanning 150 countries. These young innovators will be tasked with developing solutions to pressing global issues. Winners of the competition are scheduled to be announced at the WEF gathering in 2027.
Another key component of the UAE’s partnership with the WEF is the establishment of the Global Centre for Future Opportunities. The center will concentrate on transforming emerging technologies and economic trends into actionable public policies. This initiative aims to ensure that technological advancements contribute to sustainable economic growth and social development on a global scale.
The third initiative, known as Future 20, is designed to highlight the achievements of 20 individuals under the age of 30 who have demonstrated significant potential to influence future developments. These young leaders will be recognized for their ability to inspire communities and convert innovative ideas into impactful opportunities that can benefit millions worldwide.
Together, these initiatives underscore the UAE’s commitment to fostering global cooperation in technology and leadership development. They reflect a strategic focus on preparing future generations to navigate and shape the evolving economic and technological landscape. The launch comes amid growing international efforts to harness artificial intelligence and emerging technologies while addressing the socio-economic challenges they present.
