UCLA Athletics announced on Wednesday that all undergraduate, graduate, and extension students will now have free access to home football and men’s and women’s basketball games. This change applies to all games held at the Rose Bowl and Pauley Pavilion and aims to increase student attendance and energy at sporting events.

Previously, students were required to purchase a Den Pass for $199 to attend home football and men’s basketball contests. Those who have already purchased passes for the 2026-2027 academic year will receive reimbursements, according to the athletic department.

Tim Harris, UCLA’s newly appointed chief executive and athletic director, emphasized the program as part of broader efforts to revitalize the school’s flagship sports teams. “We have an exciting team led by head football coach Bob Chesney and a lot of momentum surrounding UCLA Athletics,” Harris said. He encouraged students to “arrive early, be loud, be relentless,” and expressed enthusiasm about seeing widespread support at the upcoming home football game.

This initiative is among several changes Harris has implemented since assuming leadership, responding to challenges faced during the tenure of former athletic director Martin Jarmond. Financial difficulties, including a $222.27 million deficit accumulated since the 2020 fiscal year, contributed to Jarmond’s departure. Despite the department’s financial struggles, UCLA is prioritizing free student access to bolster attendance and create a more vibrant atmosphere at key sporting events.
