UEFA has launched an investigation into an incident that occurred during halftime of the Nations League match between the Republic of Ireland and Israel on Sunday. The game, held in Serbia, ended in a draw, but tensions escalated behind closed doors during the break.

Ireland’s head coach, Damien Doyle, alleged that he was spat at by an Israeli player during the pause in play. In response, UEFA confirmed that it had reviewed official match reports and appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to examine possible misconduct involving one or more players.

The Republic of Ireland currently occupy third place in Group B3 after completing four fixtures. Their upcoming schedule includes a visit to Austria, the group leaders, in Linz next month, followed by a concluding match against Kosovo in Dublin. The outcome of UEFA’s investigation may impact future proceedings related to the incident and team conduct within the group.
