The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended that universities and higher education institutions implement measures to deliver examination results directly to students, with the aim of protecting their privacy. In a directive issued recently, UGC Chairman Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne emphasized the importance of safeguarding students’ dignity and wellbeing by limiting public disclosure of exam outcomes where appropriate.

The advisory encourages universities and other higher education providers to establish suitable mechanisms for communicating results privately to individuals. Institutions are advised to ensure these arrangements comply with relevant laws, policies, regulations, and statutory requirements.

By promoting direct communication of examination results, the UGC seeks to enhance privacy protections for students within the country’s education system. The move reflects growing concerns about confidentiality and the potential impacts of publicizing academic performance, highlighting a shift toward more student-centered data handling practices across Sri Lanka’s higher education sector.
