The British Ambassador to Kuwait, Qudsi Rasheed, visited the British School of Kuwait (BSK) and The Sunshine Kindergarten (TSK) to mark the completion of extensive renovations at the kindergarten facility. The visit, which took place recently, included a tour of both institutions, meetings with school leaders and students, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque celebrating the upgrades at TSK.
The renovation project involved modernizing the kindergarten’s facilities and learning environments with guidance from UK specialists, aligning the updates with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. These improvements aimed to create an enhanced setting to support early childhood education and development.
TSK holds a special place in the history of BSK, having served as the foundation for the school’s expansion over the past five decades. The British School of Kuwait, established nearly 50 years ago, has grown from its origins at TSK into a comprehensive institution offering education from early years through to Year 13. The upcoming 50th anniversary adds historical significance to the recent renovations and the embassy’s engagement.
During his visit, Ambassador Rasheed toured classrooms and educational facilities, observing teaching methods and student activities. He interacted with students across various year groups, particularly meeting student leaders who presented initiatives they oversee. These initiatives cover a broad range, including academic development, physical and mental well-being, community outreach, school events, and student communications. Conversations also highlighted students’ experiences within the British education system, including IGCSE and A Level studies, as well as their aspirations for higher education and future careers.
The Ambassador also met with BSK Founder and Director Madam Vera Al-Mutawa MBE and Principal Emma Bowie, reinforcing the ongoing collaboration between the school and the British Embassy on shared educational objectives. In his remarks, Rasheed praised the modern learning spaces and technology, as well as the confidence and ambition demonstrated by the students. He emphasized the enduring cultural and educational ties between Kuwait and the United Kingdom, affirming the school’s commitment to maintaining its British educational roots while continuing to innovate in preparing students for the future.
