UK venture capital firms raised a record $6.9 billion across 31 new funds in the third quarter of 2026, marking the highest quarterly total on record, according to data from HSBC Innovation Banking and Dealroom. This amount is more than four times the average quarterly fundraising over the past two years, highlighting a sustained surge in venture investment within the country.

So far this year, UK start-ups have attracted $23.3 billion in funding, a figure that is more than double the sums raised by comparable markets such as France and Germany. Index Ventures was the most active investor, accounting for just over half of the capital raised during the period by closing three funds totaling $3.5 billion across seed, venture, and growth stages. Other significant fundraisings included Highland Europe’s sixth growth fund, which raised approximately $1.1 billion (€1 billion), as well as large closures by QuantumLight and Crane Venture Partners.

Despite the total investment in UK start-ups during the quarter being slightly lower than the preceding quarter, HSBC Innovation Banking UK’s chief executive, Emily Turner, expressed optimism about future investment trends. She noted that the current capital raised equips investors with greater resources to support innovative companies through subsequent growth phases and reflects ongoing confidence in the UK’s venture landscape.

Among notable funding rounds, CityFibre, a telecommunications network provider, closed the largest deal during the quarter with a $1.2 billion raise in July. London-based fintech firm FNZ secured $450 million in September, while semiconductor start-up Olix raised $312 million in August. The semiconductor sector in particular has seen a sharp increase in funding, with $1.6 billion raised so far this year, surpassing the previous record total of $1.3 billion set last year. Nearly half of all UK semiconductor funding since 2010 has been secured in the past two years, underscoring a recent acceleration in investment focused on this industry.

This surge in venture funding indicates robust investor confidence in the UK’s innovation-driven sectors, spanning telecommunications, financial technology, and semiconductor development, despite some quarter-to-quarter fluctuations in overall investment levels.
