Ellen Davey, who began her career in the travel industry in 1966, has been recognized as the United Kingdom’s longest-serving travel agent. Now 77 years old, she continues to work at Tui’s Stevenage store in Hertfordshire, reflecting on more than six decades of profound changes in how holidays are planned and booked.

When Davey started, she recalled, the industry operated without the digital tools that are now integral. There were no computers, internet access, emails, electronic tickets, or online booking platforms. Arranging a trip often required hours of telephone calls directly to airlines and hotels. Today, customers have instant access to a wide range of destinations and travel options via their smartphones, allowing them to organize trips more frequently and seek specialized advice on everything from cruises to long-haul vacations.

Despite the technological advancements, Davey’s extensive experience allows her to provide personalized recommendations to travelers. Among her favored destinations is the Riu Gran Canaria hotel, which she praised for its proximity to shopping areas, convenience for a straightforward beach holiday, quality of food, entertainment offerings, and welcoming staff.

Throughout her career, Davey has witnessed significant transformations in the travel industry, from manual bookings to digital convenience, yet she shows no intention of retiring.
