The details about Mojtaba’s condition and location remain closely guarded within Iran’s political establishment. A recent anecdote circulating in Tehran involves Yousef Pezeshkian, the son of a senior official, reportedly inquiring about the Supreme Leader’s health. According to the story, his father—one of the few known to have seen Khamenei in recent weeks—reacted angrily, questioning the relevance of the inquiry and nearly resorting to physical reprimand. Pezeshkian had also expressed a desire to meet Mojtaba Khamenei, but this request apparently went unmet.

Observers inside Iran suggest that the leadership’s secrecy is part of a strategic effort to protect Mojtaba from further threats by Israel and the United States. One analyst commented that certain figures within the Islamic Republic might be deliberately cultivating a sense of mystique or even adopting a cloak of invisibility around Mojtaba’s disappearance, drawing parallels to historical or religious figures reputed to remain hidden, such as the Taliban’s Mullah Omar or the Shia concept of the Hidden Imam.

Public sentiment among some Iranians reflects frustration and despair over the ongoing political situation. A resident of Karaj, who identified herself as Nasim, expressed a profound disillusionment with the Islamic Republic and the circumstances that have prevailed since the 1979 revolution, attributing blame broadly, including to herself for remaining silent and staying in the country.

The combination of mysterious disappearances, reported assassination attempts, and official silence continues to fuel speculation about the internal stability of Iran’s ruling elite and the future leadership succession in the country.
