In children, nut allergies may not always present with clear symptoms. Dr. Rajashree Ganesh, a specialist in internal medicine, notes that young children might exhibit signs such as sudden irritability, unusual fatigue, behavioral changes, or feeding difficulties, which can be easily overlooked. This underscores the importance of clinical vigilance in early detection.
A 2019 study published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology assessed 258 individuals with peanut allergies and found that most could tolerate tree nuts. However, nearly 40% avoided all nuts, driven mainly by concerns over cross-contact rather than confirmed allergic reactions. Cross-contact remains a critical concern in managing nut allergies.
