An inquest held in Ipswich has determined that a man, whose partial remains were discovered in the River Stour at Sudbury, Suffolk, was unlawfully killed. The unidentified individual, referred to as the "Croft Man" during the proceedings, had several mummified limbs found in black bin bags on August 27, 2020. A dog walker made the grim discovery of two mummified legs and feet along with two mummified arms missing hands.

Subsequent police investigations involved divers recovering additional remains, including skull fragments, facial bones, and two teeth contained in a thin blue plastic bag. These remains were located two days after the initial find. Despite efforts, the identity of the man has not been established.

The inquest examined the circumstances surrounding the death, concluding that the victim’s killing was unlawful.
