Unilever has announced plans to increase prices on key consumer staples such as Marmite, Hellman’s mayonnaise, and Dove soap in the second half of the year, citing rising costs that will be passed on to retailers and consumers. The company’s warning came alongside a strong trading update that reported its highest sales volume growth in a decade.
The multinational consumer goods firm reported a 5.5 percent increase in sales volume, marking a significant uplift driven by robust demand across multiple product categories. This performance prompted an upgrade to Unilever’s full-year outlook, which in turn boosted its share price by approximately six percent.
Despite the positive results, Unilever’s CEO Fernando Fernandez highlighted ongoing economic uncertainties that could affect the broader market environment. Fernandez described the company’s recent performance as “strong” but cautioned that elevated inflation and supply chain challenges continue to create a complex backdrop for business operations.
The decision to raise prices reflects Unilever’s efforts to manage increased input costs and maintain profitability while meeting sustained consumer demand. The company’s pricing adjustments are expected to take effect progressively, influencing household budgets for everyday essentials in the coming months.
