Plans for the Universal UK resort, scheduled to open in Bedfordshire in 2031, are expected to significantly boost the economy of neighboring West Northamptonshire, local officials say. The £50 billion project, anticipated to create 28,000 jobs nationwide, is viewed as a substantial opportunity for regional economic growth and increased tourism.

West Northamptonshire Council has expressed support for initiatives aimed at ensuring the area benefits from the forthcoming development. Richard Clinton, chair of the Northamptonshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership, highlighted the resort’s potential to generate employment and drive tourism beyond Bedfordshire’s borders. "It will have this ripple effect," Clinton said, emphasizing the county’s existing tourism strengths, including events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which already attract visitors to Northamptonshire towns.

Council leader Mark Arnull echoed this optimism, describing the project as having "the potential to create thousands of jobs, attract visitors from across the globe and provide lasting benefits for our local economy." He, along with chief executive Martin Henry, recently participated in a roundtable discussion with Universal Destinations and Experiences in Bedford, focusing on how the broader region might maximise the economic impact of the resort.

Arnull added that the development could be "truly transformational" for the area and expressed the council’s commitment to contributing to efforts that leverage the resort’s benefits for local communities.

The Universal UK resort represents one of the largest investments in the country’s tourism sector, and regional stakeholders are actively engaging to ensure that surrounding counties, including West Northamptonshire, share in its anticipated growth and employment opportunities.
