The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Nizwa is set to host the inaugural edition of the ‘Innovation Bridge’ Forum on May 4 and 5. The event aims to empower students to turn creative ideas into practical solutions, while promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the academic community.

The forum reflects UTAS’s focus on aligning educational outcomes and research activities with the evolving needs of the market. It will serve as a collaborative platform bringing together students, faculty members, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives from both the public and private sectors. Organizers anticipate that this gathering will open new opportunities for cooperation and foster long-term partnerships to support the development of a knowledge-based economy in Oman.

Central to the forum is a two-day innovation hackathon, where participants will work intensively to develop their ideas into prototypes and viable products. Experts in innovation and technology transfer will guide the teams throughout the process. In addition to the hackathon, the event will include an exhibition showcasing student projects and the outputs generated during the forum. This setup is designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and attract potential investment in the showcased initiatives.

Approximately 12 teams, comprising nearly 60 students from multiple UTAS branches, are expected to take part. The forum will also feature participation from teams representing vocational colleges and the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, highlighting an inclusive and collaborative academic environment that encourages expertise sharing across institutions.

By organizing the Innovation Bridge Forum, UTAS aims to strengthen the link between academic research and practical application, fostering an ecosystem where innovation can thrive and contribute to Oman’s broader economic development goals.
