Bangladesh’s recent civil nuclear cooperation agreement with the United States will not impact the operations of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman stated on Tuesday. Speaking at a weekly press briefing at the Secretariat, Zahed emphasized that Bangladesh intends to collaborate with multiple countries in its pursuit of expanding nuclear energy capabilities. This cooperation could encompass various aspects such as fuel supply, technical assistance, and workforce training to support the country’s growing power demands.

Addressing other issues during the briefing, Zahed condemned the recent attack and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, describing the incident as embarrassing for the government. He assured that those responsible would be held accountable following the outcome of police investigations.

When questioned about allegations regarding extortion linked to the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Zahed said the government will take action based solely on verified complaints and avoid engaging in retaliatory political narratives.

Regarding reports that France had connected Bangladesh’s planned Airbus purchase to trade support in light of its upcoming graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category, Zahed clarified that any procurement decisions would be made independently and based strictly on national interests without succumbing to external pressure.

On the security front, Zahed noted that while some areas have experienced a deterioration in law and order, the country overall has moved beyond a state of anarchy. He added that certain types of crime have declined and that the government is actively addressing lapses among law enforcement personnel.

Finally, in response to media claims from India about a possible visit by Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to Bangladesh earlier this month, Zahed said the government currently had no information confirming such a visit.
