Aaron Ramsey has been appointed as the new head coach of Oxford United, the League One club announced on Wednesday. The former Wales international and Arsenal midfielder takes over following the dismissal of Matt Bloomfield, who was relieved of his duties last weekend after the club’s relegation from the Championship.

Ramsey, 35, brings a notable playing career to his first permanent managerial role. He earned 86 caps for Wales and featured for clubs including Cardiff City, Arsenal, Juventus, and Rangers. His coaching experience includes working with the Welsh national team and a short interim managerial spell at Cardiff before stepping up to this position at Oxford.

In his first statement as head coach, Ramsey expressed enthusiasm about the challenge ahead. "I can sense the ambition and desire for success, which gives me great excitement about this opportunity," he said. He also emphasized his intent to implement a "culture of high standards," drawing on lessons from the elite managers he played under during his career.

Oxford United faced a difficult campaign that culminated in dropping down to League One, prompting a change in leadership as the club aims to rebuild and regain its standing in English football’s second tier. Ramsey’s appointment signals the club’s focus on combining experienced mentorship with a fresh approach following their recent setbacks.
