A bookstore in Hawally, Kuwait, is giving used books a new lease on life by offering thousands of titles across a wide range of genres at affordable prices. Almenhaj Bookstore, founded by Abdulrahman Al-Sherif, stocks books in categories including bilingual novels, children’s literature, history, law, and philosophy, with prices starting as low as 500 fils.

Al-Sherif explained that the bookstore acquires its inventory from libraries, businesses, and private individuals, either purchasing collections deemed suitable or accepting donations. These books are subsequently sorted and redistributed to new readers. The majority of sales now occur online, with the store’s KD 1 section—featuring approximately 12,000 books—being especially popular among customers.

In addition to its wide selection, Almenhaj Bookstore offers clearance items, rare and antique editions, bulk boxes of English-language books, and a selection of donated titles available for free. The store primarily buys books in good condition but generally excludes English-language books and school textbooks from purchases, though such items are accepted as donations.

Al-Sherif emphasized that Almenhaj’s chief objective is to make reading more affordable and accessible, encouraging people to explore literature across diverse subjects. To aid this goal, books are organized by price and type, fostering cultural engagement and broadening readers’ options.
