The Las Vegas Aces secured a commanding 92-73 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday, opening their first three-game home stand of the season with a strong team performance. The win, achieved at their home arena, improved the Aces' June record to 7-1, matching the league-leading Minnesota Lynx for the month.
Jackie Young led the Aces with 21 points, shooting efficiently at 9-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. A'ja Wilson contributed 19 points and nine rebounds, while Chelsea Gray added 15 points along with nine assists. Supporting the primary scorers, Na’Lyssa Smith posted 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and Jewell Loyd provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Las Vegas shot an impressive 62.1 percent from the field (36-of-58) and converted 45.8 percent of their three-point attempts (11-of-24).
The Aces established control early after trailing 26-25 midway through the second quarter. They then executed a 25-4 run to close out the half, taking a 50-30 lead into halftime. Young led all players with 13 points in the first half, while Golden State’s Cecelia Zandalasini scored eight points and Gabby Williams added eight, though the rest of the Valkyries’ starters combined for only two points before the break.
Zandalasini finished as Golden State’s top scorer with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Williams added 10 points but struggled with efficiency, going 4-of-11 from the field. Kaitlyn Chen continued her recent strong performance off the bench, scoring 11 points for the Valkyries, marking her second double-digit game in three outings.
Las Vegas extended its lead to as much as 28 points in the third quarter, maintaining control throughout the second half to secure the decisive victory. The Aces, now 12-4 on the season, remain one of the team’s most formidable forces. Notably, this marks a reversal of fortune from earlier in the month when the Aces handed the Lynx their only loss of June in a closely contested 100-97 game on June 13.
Golden State, holding a 10-7 record, will look to rebound from the defeat as their road trip continues. The Valkyries will need to improve their offensive efficiency and depth scoring if they hope to even the series in upcoming matchups against the league’s top contenders.
