Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar appointed VCK party leader Vijay as the state’s Chief Minister on Saturday, following the completion of the necessary majority count. Vijay is scheduled to take the oath of office on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Nehru Stadium.
The governor has instructed Vijay to prove his majority on the floor of the assembly by May 13. Vijay, a former actor who transitioned into politics, secured the public’s support to bring his party close to power on his first attempt. However, the final numbers required to establish a stable government took five days to consolidate.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in Tamil Nadu politics, as Vijay’s party worked to secure sufficient backing to form the government. With the swearing-in ceremony imminent, attention now turns to the confidence vote deadline set by the governor to ensure the new administration commands a legislative majority.
