Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), a partner of the Qatar Foundation, has launched its Community and Continuing Education (CCE) programmes for the Fall 2026 semester, opening registration to the public. The courses, scheduled from late August through December, are divided into two streams: Continuing Education, aimed at professional development for alumni, creative practitioners, and entrepreneurs; and Community Education, which serves children, teenagers, and adult learners.
The Continuing Education segment begins on August 31 with "Business Basics for Designers: How to Think Like an Entrepreneur," a course designed to introduce fundamental business principles and help participants transform creative ideas into viable enterprises. This programme will be offered free of charge to eligible VCUarts Qatar alumni.
On September 26, VCUarts Qatar will partner with BlackRook Academy to deliver "Design Thinking for Creative Problem Solving," a two-day virtual course targeting alumni and creative professionals. The programme emphasizes a human-centered approach to addressing complex challenges by encouraging participants to apply design thinking methods to professional scenarios, including opportunity identification, problem reframing, and ideation.
The Community Education track launches with a diverse array of practical courses spanning animation, sustainable design, digital drawing, experimental art, interior design, social media, branding, and portfolio development. The portfolio development programme, starting August 30, is open to participants aged 16 and above and is structured into four sections running through December 2. It is intended for students pursuing art and design education, focusing on competitive portfolio creation alongside skills development in creative thinking and drawing.
Additional offerings include “Unconventional Canvas,” commencing September 6, which encourages art enthusiasts to explore contemporary art methods and experiment with various materials and textures. From September 20 to October 13, "Digital Drawing" will guide participants in using Procreate on iPads to design creatures and environments by turning initial concepts into detailed digital illustrations.
Beginning October 6, "Design Your Home" will introduce the basics of interior planning, including furniture arrangement, mood board creation, color schemes, and selection of finishes. A course on "Social Media Design & Branding: Create, Capture, Connect," starting November 2, will teach learners to integrate branding, graphic design, photography, video, and storytelling to build their own social media presence from concept through final presentation.
For younger students aged 13 to 17, "Animation Tools: A Guide to Animation Software" starts September 2, covering 2D and traditional animation alongside digital techniques. Meanwhile, children between 8 and 14 years old can participate in "Sustainable Cardboard Furniture for Children," beginning September 6, which offers a hands-on introduction to sustainable design and fabrication by creating functional furniture from cardboard.
These varied programmes reflect VCUarts Qatar’s commitment to fostering creative skills across a wide demographic, accommodating both emerging professionals and community members interested in artistic and design disciplines.
