Vespa has introduced its most powerful and technologically advanced scooter to date with the latest iteration of the GTS 300 model. The new version features a 278cc engine, an increase of 32cc over its predecessor, enhanced with updated fuel injectors and a redesigned crankcase. While the rise in power and torque is modest, the engine delivers its maximum output at a lower 6,500 rpm compared to the 8,250 rpm peak of the earlier model, with peak torque still occurring at 5,250 rpm.

The update aims to blend classic Vespa styling and craftsmanship—marked by steel construction and iconic design—with modern performance and convenience. Weighing approximately 163 kg, the scooter retains a traditional yet refined riding experience, managing to hold its own alongside more powerful motorcycles such as the 115bhp Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello on country roads. Although the acceleration out of corners can be gradual due to its weight, the GTS 300 cruises comfortably at motorway speeds without strain.

Handling has improved with a combination of 12-inch wheels, a single-sided swingarm, and twin rear shocks that provide a balanced and responsive ride over uneven surfaces, including potholes. Braking performance is supported by front and rear 220mm disc brakes, which offer smooth, progressive stopping power when applied together.

In terms of practicality, the scooter achieves an estimated fuel efficiency of 88 miles per gallon, allowing for a range of roughly 150 miles on a full tank. Underseat storage is available, though it is not large enough to accommodate a full-face helmet, encouraging riders to opt for open-face helmets in keeping with Italian scooter culture.

The updated Vespa incorporates modern features such as LED lighting, keyless ignition, remote seat unlocking, and smartphone connectivity, enhancing convenience and safety. These technological upgrades, combined with Vespa’s trademark elegance and build quality, present a refined option for riders seeking an urban and touring scooter with a strong heritage and a distinct sense of style.
