Vice-President U Nyo Saw attended the 27th Traditional Myanmar Cultural Performing Arts Competition on October 24, observing several contests held across Nay Pyi Taw. Accompanied by Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe and other officials, the Vice-President watched competitors in multiple categories aimed at promoting Myanmar’s cultural heritage among youth.
The events took place at several venues throughout the city, including Hsinbyushin Hall in the Nay Pyi Taw Transit Centre, the National Museum, and the National Library. In the morning, the Vice-President viewed the basic education level girls’ dancing contest for participants aged 10 to 15 at Hsinbyushin Hall. He then observed boys aged 15 to 20 competing in the xylophone contest at the National Museum, followed by a solo traditional orchestra contest for the same age group at Wunzin Minyaza Hall in the National Library.
In the afternoon, the Vice-President attended a marionette troupe performance by representatives from Yangon Region. This was part of the marionette troupe amateur first-class category, presented during a drama contest featuring the play “Suvannasama” at the Yinkyayhmu Yadana Hall of the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism.
The competition, now in its 27th iteration, is designed to uphold and strengthen Myanmar’s ethnic cultural traditions. Organizers emphasize its role in enhancing national prestige and unity, preserving the unique national characteristics of ethnic groups, and fostering appreciation of traditional arts among younger generations. The event also aims to support the sustainable development of Myanmar’s traditional performing arts and contribute to the country's broader nation-building efforts.
