Victoria Monet has revealed the personal and vocal challenges that influenced the creation of her second studio album, "Frequency of Love," which was released recently through Lovett Music and RCA Records. The 22-track project, arriving three years after her previous album "Jaguar II," reflects a period of motherhood, personal development, and significant vocal struggles.
Monet, who has established herself as both a Grammy-winning solo artist and a sought-after songwriter for acts such as Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony, won three Grammy Awards in 2024, including Best New Artist. Despite this success, she encountered difficulties with her voice in the aftermath of her Grammy campaign.
In an interview, the singer described how her voice became noticeably deeper and more strained, saying she found it challenging to sing and even speak at a loud volume. Monet attributed these issues to the stress and pressure she was experiencing at the time. She suggested that her struggles were connected to emotional tension, explaining that as a Taurus, the difficulties manifested in what she described as her "throat chakra," affecting her ability to express herself freely.
She noted that the vocal changes were perceptible to listeners, who might observe that her voice had dropped by about an octave during interviews and performances. To address the problem, Monet initially sought medical evaluation and was prescribed muscle relaxants. Subsequently, she explored holistic approaches including acupuncture, meditation, breath work, and stretching, which contributed to her recovery.
Monet emphasized the connection between her emotional well-being and vocal health, stating that improvements in her happiness positively affected her voice. "The happier I got, the better my voice got," she explained. These experiences influenced the themes and expression found on "Frequency of Love," marking it as a project shaped by resilience and growth.
