Victoria police have confirmed that they have interviewed four men in connection with an alleged sexual assault at a Melbourne hotel involving members of the Sydney Swans AFL team. The interviews took place this week in New South Wales and involved men aged between 25 and 30.

The police investigation centers on an incident reported by three women in the early hours of August 17. Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have identified all individuals believed to have been present in the hotel room at the time of the alleged event and are not currently seeking any additional persons. Three others connected to the case have been treated as witnesses.

While no arrests or charges have been made, the Sydney Swans last month stood down five players—Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, Chad Warner, Riley Bice, and James Jordon—for the remainder of the AFL season. The club cited breaches of its standards, specifically pointing to drinking and bringing women back to the hotel. The players have denied any criminal wrongdoing.

Victoria police noted that no further updates on the investigation are expected for at least eight weeks. A statement from the Swans reiterated the importance of the wellbeing of those affected and expressed regret over the distress caused. The club also emphasized that, as the matter remains under police investigation, it would not comment further.

In a separate statement, police cautioned media outlets against publishing details that could identify the complainants and urged respectful reporting. Authorities indicated they would not provide ongoing commentary about the investigation despite significant public interest.

The Sydney Swans apologized to their members, fans, sponsors, and the broader community for the impact of the situation, extending their condolences to all staff and players within both their men’s and women’s programs.
