Vietnam and North Korea have agreed to strengthen their defense cooperation following recent discussions between their defense officials in Hanoi. The talks took place on Thursday between Nguyen Truong Thang, Vietnam’s deputy defense minister, and his North Korean counterpart, Ryo Chol-ung, who was leading a visiting delegation from North Korea.

Vietnam’s defense ministry described the meeting as productive, with both sides noting positive developments in several areas, including delegation exchanges, party and political work, as well as education and training initiatives. Nguyen Truong Thang emphasized the importance of implementing a defense cooperation letter of intent that was signed by the two countries in 2025.

Ryo Chol-ung highlighted the enduring ties between the ruling parties, governments, and armed forces of Vietnam and North Korea. He discussed various issues aimed at enhancing bilateral defense collaboration during the talks, according to the official statement.
