Bratenahl, Ohio, a small, affluent village on the shores of Lake Erie, is preparing to welcome new residents following the recent purchase of a historic estate by professional athlete Travis Kelce. The village, with a population of approximately 1,400, will see that number increase as Kelce and his fiancé, singer Taylor Swift, move into the area part-time.
Kelce finalized the acquisition in March of a $5.35 million, 21,000-square-foot Tudor-style home known as Moyenage, built in 1895 by iron and steel magnate Jay Morse. The property, situated on 3.5 acres of lakefront land, boasts eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a heated pool, sauna, fitness center, wine cellar, and an extensive driveway—features that reportedly align with the couple’s lifestyle preferences.
The home has a long history of ownership by prominent figures, including a president of Sherwin-Williams, an antiques dealer, and a medical device inventor. Its location in Bratenahl offers commanding lake views and seclusion, framed by an interstate that separates the village from the rest of eastern Cleveland.
Bratenahl is no stranger to celebrity residents. The community has long attracted executives, athletes, and entertainers who seek privacy within the village’s exclusive boundaries. Mayor Keith Benjamin emphasized that residents are accustomed to celebrity neighbors and have established a culture of discretion. “We’re used to this in Bratenahl,” Benjamin said. “Being a welcoming community includes giving people the space to be at home, whether they’re an average resident or the most famous person in the world.”
Still, some local officials express mixed feelings about part-time residency by affluent newcomers. Former Mayor John Licastro noted that many of the wealthiest property owners do not live in the village full-time, limiting the local government’s ability to collect taxes beyond property levies.
The announcement of Kelce’s purchase ignited considerable excitement among Bratenahl residents, with some following the couple's previous visits to the Cleveland area and Swift’s recent music hinting at a familiar Midwest lifestyle. The couple has been photographed dining in nearby Cleveland Heights, where Kelce grew up and maintains family ties.
Security measures are being updated to accommodate the new residents. Mayor Benjamin confirmed that Kelce has applied for a permit to extend fencing around the property to the waterline, presumably to enhance privacy and protect the recently publicized estate.
Community members are also anticipating the possibility of future public events. Sharon Klonowski, a longtime resident, organizes an annual fundraiser where locals gain access to lakefront mansions. She expressed optimism that Swift and Kelce might participate in such gatherings. “I bet Taylor and Travis would do it in a heartbeat,” Klonowski said.
As the village adjusts to the heightened attention from the couple’s high-profile residence, Bratenahl continues to balance its historic charm with its role as a haven for celebrities seeking privacy along Lake Erie’s shoreline.
