Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany expressed his frustration over Michael Olise’s red card during the team’s 3-3 draw against Viking on Tuesday night, a result that leaves the French forward suspended for the upcoming Champions League match against Arsenal.
Olise, 24, received two yellow cards in quick succession late in the game after first tugging the shirt of Viking player Zlatko Tripic and then throwing the ball in Tripic’s face. The dismissal occurred with just 16 minutes remaining, forcing Bayern to play the remainder of the match with ten men.
Speaking after the game, Kompany described the red card as “stupid” and emphasized that the incident was avoidable. While acknowledging the team’s strong effort both physically and mentally, the coach noted that such lapses negatively impact their ability to secure victories, even when Bayern had been largely in control of the match. “It makes it difficult to win, even when you’re clearly superior and don’t play that badly,” Kompany remarked, adding that these isolated errors stem from the team’s own shortcomings.
Olise’s suspension means he will miss Bayern’s crucial Champions League fixture against Arsenal, scheduled for next Wednesday. The absence of the forward is a significant blow as the club prepares to face the English side in what is expected to be a pivotal encounter in the competition.
