Despite the significant penalty, the company retains the ability to sponsor workers through the Home Office’s skilled worker programme.

During a recent visit to the business, a man identified by employees as the manager declined to comment on the fine, appearing to downplay its significance. The car wash offers vehicle cleaning services, with prices reportedly reaching up to £50 per wash.

In response to these developments, the Home Office confirmed that findings from recent investigations—including this case—will inform a broader probe into the types of roles eligible for skilled work visas. The government has increasingly focused on tightening regulations around visa sponsorship to prevent abuse and safeguard the legitimate labour market.

The car wash sector has been a focal point for enforcement, with over £2.6 million in fines imposed on similar businesses for illegal labour violations between January and March 2026 alone.
