Visit Qatar’s chief executive, Eng. Abdulaziz Ali al-Mawlawi, completed an official visit to China aimed at strengthening tourism ties by signing two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with leading technology and travel firms Fliggy and Huawei. The agreements focus on utilizing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the visitor experience and promote Qatar as a travel destination.

On June 3, Visit Qatar entered into a partnership with Fliggy, a major Chinese travel platform, to develop AI-driven travel services and enhance destination branding efforts. The collaboration will introduce a “Smart Travel Guide to Qatar” and create customized tourism packages, representing Fliggy’s inaugural deep AI integration with an international tourism board.

The following day, on June 4, Visit Qatar formalized an MoU with Huawei Mobile Services. This agreement aims to use AI and data technology to facilitate seamless travel planning, navigation, and payment solutions through platforms such as Petal Maps. The partnership builds on Visit Qatar’s prior milestone as the first international tourism board to launch services on Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system.

Together, the agreements reflect Visit Qatar’s strategy to incorporate state-of-the-art digital tools to create innovative and enriched experiences for visitors, particularly targeting the growing influx of Chinese tourists. These initiatives highlight the increasing role of AI and mobile technologies in shaping international tourism operations and marketing efforts.
