The Melbourne Vixens have adopted an underdog stance ahead of Saturday’s Super Netball grand final, despite maintaining confidence in their ability to challenge minor premiers the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Midcourter Kate Eddy, who gained recognition for her standout form early in the season and was considered a candidate for the Diamonds squad, acknowledged the team’s campaign had been marked by significant ups and downs.

After an impressive start to the season with a record-breaking nine consecutive wins, the Vixens experienced a difficult stretch, managing only one victory in their next six matches. However, they regrouped in last week’s preliminary final, delivering a strong performance to overcome West Coast Fever and secure their spot in a third straight grand final appearance.

Reflecting on the team’s recent turnaround, Eddy said the preliminary final showcased the Vixens’ capability when fully focused, emphasizing their ability to sustain high-level play for the entire match. “We can do it and we’ve shown that we can do it. We just need to back ourselves and go out there and just give it a red-hot crack,” she stated.

The upcoming grand final will test whether the Vixens can harness that form to upset the Thunderbirds and claim the championship.
