A wildfire broke out near the La Cresta community in unincorporated Murrieta on Tuesday, rapidly spreading across approximately 75 acres and prompting evacuations. Designated the Volcano Fire, the blaze remains uncontained, with containment at 0 percent according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).
Firefighting efforts involved more than 125 personnel, supported by 19 fire engines, three helicopters, two bulldozers, four hand crews, and several air tankers deploying fire retardant when conditions permitted. Resources were mobilized from various parts of California to assist in the containment operation.
Evacuated residents were relocated to Chaparral High School in Temecula for safety and shelter. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the fire response teams work to establish control lines and protect surrounding communities.
