Cape Verdean goalkeeper Josimar Évora Dias, known as Vozinha, has joined Colo Colo, Chile’s most successful football club, in a move marking a significant step in his career. The 40-year-old shot-stopper, who spent much of his professional life with smaller clubs primarily in lower divisions—including a recent stint at Chaves in Portugal’s second tier—is now aiming to establish himself on a bigger stage.

Colo Colo officially announced the signing in late July, though Vozinha’s arrival in Santiago was delayed. Despite interest from other clubs, he made clear that playing for Colo Colo was his primary goal. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Vozinha said he always believed himself to be capable of performing at a higher level. “The decision was very clear. Despite playing in smaller leagues for clubs that weren’t exactly giants, deep down I always told myself I was a ‘big club’ player,” he said. “So when Colo Colo came calling, there was no doubt.”

The goalkeeper landed at Santiago Airport on Sunday, greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of fans waving flags and playing drums. After completing his medical examination and signing his contract on Monday, Vozinha joined his new teammates for training on Tuesday. He could potentially make his debut as early as this Sunday, when Colo Colo—currently leading the Chilean league—are set to face Unión La Calera.

Reflecting on his career trajectory, Vozinha highlighted the impact of Cape Verde’s recent World Cup appearance. The tournament was a breakthrough for him and raised his profile among global football enthusiasts. “The World Cup was the best thing that ever happened to me in football, but that is in the past now,” he said. “Being here representing Colo Colo—a massive club with a rich history—is the highlight of my club career.”

Vozinha’s move to Colo Colo comes as the club continues to seek experienced talent to maintain their competitive edge domestically and in continental tournaments. His arrival adds depth to the squad’s goalkeeping options and brings international experience forged on football’s biggest stage.
