Foxborough — New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel declined to discuss a $250,000 fine imposed on him by the National Football League for his conduct toward game officials. Speaking Monday, Vrabel emphasized that the matter is considered confidential and expressed his inability to comment on the situation.
“I’m not going to comment. I can’t. Not supposed to,” Vrabel said, underscoring the league's confidentiality rules surrounding disciplinary actions. The fine became public last week following the NFL’s fall league meeting held in New York.
Alongside Vrabel, the NFL also fined Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn the same amount for similar conduct. The penalties are currently in abeyance, meaning the fines are effectively suspended and may be waived entirely if the coaches maintain appropriate behavior moving forward.
When asked if he believed the fine was on hold under those conditions, Vrabel remained noncommittal. “I can’t comment,” he said. “I think it’s best to just talk to the league. They seem to have plenty to say already about it.”
The league has not provided additional details about the specific incidents that led to the fines. The suspension of the penalties suggests the NFL is emphasizing corrective measures over immediate financial punishment, reflecting its ongoing efforts to maintain professional conduct standards among coaching staff.
