Al Ghizain village in the Wilayat of Al Khabourah is setting a notable example of community-driven development that integrates heritage preservation, sustainable tourism, and public health promotion. The recently completed Al Ghizain Walkway project has revitalized parts of the historic village, creating a recreational area that serves residents, visitors, and nature enthusiasts alike.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Al Ghizain Healthy Village Committee in partnership with local residents. The village holds official designation as a Healthy Village under the supervision of the Office of the Wali of Al Khabourah. This status aligns with broader regional efforts to foster healthier lifestyles, improve quality of life, and protect both environmental and cultural resources.

Through a collaborative approach involving community members, parents, and volunteers, the walkway project has focused on beautifying and developing the area while reinforcing sustainable practices. Key components include the restoration of Falaj Al Ghizain, a traditional irrigation channel integral to the village’s heritage, alongside cleaning and upkeep of adjacent spaces.

Upgrades to public infrastructure have improved waste management, access roads, and the installation of environmentally conscious seating areas, aimed at enhancing visitor comfort. Tree planting and landscaping have been implemented to boost both the ecological and aesthetic appeal of the site. Future plans call for the addition of small food kiosks offering local specialties such as Omani coffee and halwa, to enrich the cultural experience for guests.

According to Shaikh Ahmed al Housni, the project embodies the effectiveness of community partnership and volunteerism in developing sustainable initiatives that benefit both locals and tourists. He emphasized that the walkway not only promotes healthier living by encouraging physical activity in a natural setting but also highlights the village’s rich cultural and environmental heritage.

The walkway supports domestic tourism by showcasing the authentic identity of Oman’s rural landscapes and traditions. Ongoing development efforts will expand walking trails, enhance service facilities, and introduce more green spaces. These enhancements aim to position Al Ghizain as a leading national example of healthy village development based on sustainable tourism and community engagement.

Overall, the Al Ghizain Walkway illustrates how a shared vision and local commitment can transform heritage sites into valuable public assets, contributing to environmental preservation and sustainable development for future generations.
