Although prosecution highlighted communications indicating Mohamoud had no plans to return to the UK, he came back within a few weeks after failing to enlist with IS. British authorities arrested him shortly after his return in January 2025 and seized his phones, which contained evidence supportive of the charges against him.

Mohamoud, who resides in Bristol, denies the charge of preparing terrorist acts. The trial is currently underway at Winchester Crown Court.
