Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils have received wild card entries into the upcoming French Open, the tournament organizers announced. The two seasoned players, both planning to retire at the end of the 2026 season, will compete in what is set to be their final Roland Garros appearances.

Wawrinka, 41, is a three-time Grand Slam champion who claimed the French Open title in 2015. Currently ranked No. 125 in the world, he has looked to maintain competitive form despite his advancing age and impending retirement. Monfils, 39, also a fan favorite and former French Open semifinalist in 2008, holds a current ranking of No. 222.

Both players are scheduled to receive special tributes following their respective matches in Paris, marking the conclusion of long and successful professional careers. The decision to grant them wild cards allows them entry into the main draw despite their current rankings, which would not typically guarantee direct qualification.

In contrast, Holger Rune, a former top-five player, will not be participating in this year’s French Open. Rune announced that he is withdrawing to continue his recovery from Achilles tendon surgery. The injury occurred last October during a tournament in Sweden, sidelining the player for several months. Rune plans to resume competition during the grass-court season next month, deferring his comeback from the Grand Slam on clay.

The French Open is scheduled to begin later this month in Paris, drawing attention both for the celebration of veteran players’ careers and the evolving landscape as emerging talents return from injury.
