Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM-Q) has received the ASPIRE Certificate of Merit in Technology Enhanced Learning, an award that recognises institutional excellence in the application of educational technologies. The accolade was bestowed by the ASPIRE Academy, part of the AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe), an international authority in health professions education. This year’s awards will be formally presented during the AMEE Conference 2026 in Vienna.

The ASPIRE Board acknowledged WCM-Q for demonstrating significant commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and educational quality through its use of technology-enhanced learning. The institution was praised for effectively implementing educational technologies grounded in sound pedagogical principles that enhance both teaching and learning experiences, while delivering clear educational value and impact.

Dr. Douglas Bovell, adjunct professor of systems and computational biomedicine at WCM-Q, expressed enthusiasm about the recognition. He emphasized the institution’s philosophy of adopting innovative learning methods that have measurable benefits on educational outcomes. “We believe it is essential to equip our students with both technical expertise and an ability to adapt to the changing technological landscape so that they can thrive in their careers as physicians,” he said.

Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, professor of clinical medicine and vice dean for academic and curricular affairs, also highlighted the significance of the award. She conveyed appreciation for the formal recognition from AMEE and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of her colleagues in rigorously testing and integrating new learning technologies to benefit students. According to Dr. Arayssi, this collective commitment was instrumental in achieving the award.
