Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral diplomacy and international peace amid growing regional tensions, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Prince Faisal emphasized that the Kingdom's high-level delegation to the assembly highlights its dedication to addressing cross-border challenges and promoting peaceful resolutions to conflicts affecting the region and the world. The annual UN gathering provides a key platform for such diplomatic engagement, he noted.

His remarks came as several Arab organizations and officials voiced strong support for Saudi Arabia following recent missile attacks carried out by the Houthi movement targeting Riyadh. The attacks have been widely condemned as violations of international law and threats to both the Kingdom’s sovereignty and broader regional stability.

The Arab League’s General Secretariat issued a statement denouncing the incursions as a “dangerous and unacceptable escalation,” underscoring the risks posed to civilian safety and the security of the Gulf region. It reaffirmed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and backed the Kingdom’s measures to safeguard its national security, stressing that Saudi security is an essential component of Arab collective security.

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yami, president of the Arab Parliament, also condemned the attacks on Riyadh, describing them as a direct threat to Arab national security and regional stability. In an official statement, he expressed the parliament’s unequivocal support for Saudi Arabia’s defensive actions.

These expressions of solidarity coincided with the opening of the UN General Assembly’s annual meetings, where global leaders convene to discuss pressing international issues. The situation along the Saudi-Houthi frontlines has added urgency to discussions on Middle East security and the need for peaceful conflict resolution.

The Houthi movement, which holds significant territory in Yemen, has frequently launched cross-border attacks into Saudi Arabia amid the ongoing Yemen conflict. Riyadh and its allies have consistently condemned such attacks and called for a cessation of hostilities to ensure regional stability.

Saudi Arabia’s participation at the UN General Assembly this year underscores its broader foreign policy approach focused on multilateralism and cooperation, even as it seeks to address immediate security threats in its neighborhood.
