Welling United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ramsgate in a closely contested Kent derby on Saturday. The decisive goal came early in the match when Nahum Melvin-Lambert converted a cross from Zak O’Keefe in the fifth minute. This marked Melvin-Lambert’s fourth goal of the season, giving Welling an early advantage.

Throughout the first half, Welling maintained pressure on the Ramsgate defense. Tyrell Miller-Rodney had a chance that went over the bar, while goalkeeper Mackenzie Foley made a straightforward save from Callum Jones, who connected with a cross from Alfie Paxman. O’Keefe also tested the defense with a shot off target, and Demaray Anyadike’s attempt was comfortably handled by Ramsgate keeper Jonny Henly as the Wings closed the half strongly.

The second half saw a more disrupted rhythm, with multiple substitutions affecting the flow of play. Ramsgate pushed forward in search of an equalizer, with a notable opportunity arriving when Oguntayo’s low ball found Liam Nash, but he was unable to convert. A follow-up attempt by Rees was deflected just over the crossbar, keeping Welling’s lead intact.

Ramsgate’s challenge was further complicated when Johnson received a second yellow card for a foul near the edge of the penalty area, reducing the team to ten men. Despite being a player down, Ramsgate continued to press toward the Welling goal. Tyano Wilson’s deflected shot struck the inside of the post but did not result in a goal. Near the end of the match, Anokye-Boadi managed to get past his marker at the far post, turning in a low cross from the right side, but was unable to alter the scoreline.

Welling United’s early strike proved sufficient to secure all three points in a competitive local fixture, as they managed to maintain a narrow lead under sustained pressure from Ramsgate.
