Avanti West Coast plans to reduce its service frequency on some of its busiest routes this summer following a directive from the Department for Transport to lower operational costs. Starting from July 20, the train operator will cut approximately 38 daily weekday services for a six-week period.

The reduction represents about one in seven of the 248 daily services typically operating on routes connecting London Euston with Birmingham, Liverpool, and Manchester along the West Coast Main Line. Avanti West Coast indicated that the service cuts will primarily affect trains with lower passenger demand.

The move comes as part of a broader effort by the government to manage spending within the rail network. The company emphasized that the targeted reductions are intended to balance cost savings while minimizing disruption on the busiest corridors. Passengers on these key routes may need to adjust their travel plans during the period of reduced frequency.
