West Ham secured their first victory of the Championship season with a 4-2 win over Wolves at the London Stadium on Thursday. The two sides, both relegated from the Premier League last season, entered the match with contrasting starts; Wolves had gathered more points from their opening fixtures, while West Ham had taken just two points from three games.

Divine Mukasa, on loan from Manchester City, played a pivotal role for West Ham, scoring twice. His opening goal, a striking effort into the top corner, gave the home team an early advantage. Jarrod Bowen then converted a penalty to extend the lead before Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi narrowed the deficit with a goal for the visitors.

West Ham restored their two-goal margin shortly after as Mukasa scored a second time, this time benefiting from a deflection. Later in the match, Konstantinos Mavropanos added a further goal for West Ham. While Mavropanos also inadvertently scored an own goal, Wolves' late effort was not enough to prevent the defeat. The result moved West Ham to 11th place in the Championship standings, while Wolves remain in third.

Elsewhere in the league, Swansea City climbed to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Watford, thanks to goals from Eom Ji-sung and Adam Idah. Southampton, who began the season with a four-point deduction due to a spying scandal at the end of last season, saw their upward momentum halted in a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City. Keven Schlotterbeck scored first for Southampton, but August Priske leveled for Birmingham in the second half.

Bristol City secured a 3-1 win over bottom-placed Preston North End, moving themselves into fifth position, while Sheffield United edged out Bolton Wanderers 3-2 with a stoppage-time winner from Romelle Donovan.
