The West Riding County Football Association will host its annual Charity Shield match on Wednesday, August 5, at its headquarters in Woodlesford. The event, which marks the beginning of the new football season, aims to support Asthma & Lung UK, a charity focused on respiratory health.

This year’s fixture will feature Beeston St Anthony’s against Berry Brow in a contest that traditionally pits the champions of the West Yorkshire League against the winners of the Yorkshire Amateur Football League. However, with Field Olympic, the West Yorkshire League champions, advancing to a higher tier in the football pyramid, Beeston St Anthony’s will represent the league as runners-up.

Organisers are expecting an attendance of approximately 500 spectators for the match, which is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. The Charity Shield has become a staple in the local football calendar, not only celebrating competitive football but also raising awareness and funds for community causes.
