Fans of fantasy romance gathered across the Boston area on October 27 to mark the midnight release of Sarah J. Maas’s latest installment in her bestselling “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, "A Court of Splintered Harmony." The novel, the sixth in the series often abbreviated by readers as ACoTAR, has generated considerable anticipation as it continues the story of Feyre Archeron, a human who transforms into a fae and navigates a richly imagined world filled with magic and complex interpersonal dynamics.
Multiple bookstores and literary venues staged midnight release events characterized by themed activities, cosplay, and social gatherings aimed at immersing readers in the series' universe. Enchanted Pages Collective, a mobile bookshop, hosted a party at Wojcik’s Farm in Blackstone that included bracelet making inspired by the series, theory boards for fans to share speculation, trivia contests, photo opportunities, and a cash bar.
In Quincy, Next Chapter Books and More partnered with Drifters Kitchen & Bar to offer drink specials, themed trivia games, cosplay celebrations, and the midnight book distribution, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. Meanwhile, Lovestruck Books, a specialty romance bookstore in Cambridge, held an event featuring a live DJ and costume contest with voice actor Jon Vertullo as host. This event quickly reached capacity and operated on a waitlist basis.
Harvard Book Store also engaged fans with an evening of exclusive ACoTAR-themed activities including photo ops and a costume contest. Ticket holders were admitted beginning at 10:30 p.m. as part of the lead-up to the formal book release.
The “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series has become a significant cultural phenomenon within the romance and fantasy genres, having sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. The newest book is expected to explore large-scale battles and further develop key character arcs, continuing to captivate its dedicated readership.
