The White House sharply criticized former special counsel Jack Smith on Monday after photos surfaced of him wearing a “No Kings” T-shirt at a concert in Maryland over the weekend. Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, labeled Smith a “partisan attack rat” in a post on X, accusing him of politicizing the justice system against former President Donald Trump.

Smith, 57, who has overseen two criminal cases against Trump in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, was seen attending a Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band concert at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. In the images, he was holding a beer and walking to his seat.

Cheung’s remarks characterized Smith as a politically motivated figure who weaponized the legal system on behalf of Democrats. “Don’t think they won’t go after innocent Americans again if they get their way,” Cheung added in his post, suggesting broader concerns about the potential use of prosecutorial power.

Smith recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” investigation. This probe played a central role in the federal charges he brought against Trump, including allegations related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and the mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

The White House’s condemnation follows heightened political scrutiny of Smith’s investigations and raised questions about impartiality and motivations in high-profile legal actions involving the former president.
