BOSTON — The Chicago White Sox bolstered their roster ahead of the trade deadline Monday, acquiring four new players as they aim to maintain their lead in the American League Central and pursue a postseason berth.

The White Sox announced the addition of outfielder Brenton Doyle from the Colorado Rockies, catcher Joey Bart from the Atlanta Braves, starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners, and reliever Huascar Brazobán from the New York Mets. Doyle and Bart made their debuts Tuesday in the first game of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, with Castillo scheduled to start in Thursday’s series finale.

Manager Will Venable expressed enthusiasm about the incoming players, highlighting the front office’s confidence in the team’s potential. “Getting four new players that are going to help us win more games is awesome to see,” he said. Venable indicated that the new acquisitions are poised to play significant roles, with Doyle slated to platoon in center field and Bart expected to split catching duties with Drew Romo.

Doyle, a two-time Gold Glove winner, admitted that his trade came as a swift surprise, noting the quick progression of events Monday morning. After missing time due to a left oblique injury earlier this season, Doyle said he is grateful for the opportunity to join a competitive team. “I’ve never really come close to being part of playoff baseball,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity, and I’m thankful for the White Sox to give it to me.” Venable praised Doyle’s speed, athleticism, and defensive skills, describing him as an asset both on the field and off the bench.

Bart, who began the season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded to the Braves in June, acknowledged the challenge of adjusting to a third pitching staff in one year but said he felt welcomed by the White Sox’s energetic clubhouse culture. “It seems, from the outside looking in, like a lot of fun, a lot of energy,” Bart said. “I’m just excited to bring what I bring and keep winning.” He has already been studying the pitching staff closely and aims to quickly build rapport with his new teammates and coaches.

The White Sox made the decision to option catcher Edgar Quero to Triple-A Charlotte despite his recent offensive success, which included a walk-off single against the New York Yankees. Venable explained that the choice was difficult but justified by their confidence in Romo’s defensive capabilities and Quero’s continued development needs. “We really believe strongly in Quero and think that there’s even more of a better version of him out there,” Venable said. “Sending him back down to work on those things is really important.”

With these acquisitions, the White Sox remain focused on sustaining their three-game lead in the division. Castillo, who has previously pitched against Chicago, expressed his eagerness to contribute. “This is a team that likes to fight, likes to compete,” he said through an interpreter. “They’re hungry, a bunch of kids that are hungry to win.”

As the White Sox integrate their new players, the team’s blend of youthful energy and competitive drive positions them for a strong push in the months ahead.
