The Chicago White Sox have decided not to renew the contract of their lead television play-by-play announcer, John Schriffen, the team announced Monday. Schriffen, who joined the organization ahead of the 2024 season, will conclude his three-year tenure with the club after the current contract expires.
In a statement, Brooks Boyer, the White Sox executive vice president and chief revenue and marketing officer, praised Schriffen’s professionalism and distinct broadcasting style. “John has been a true professional throughout his three seasons with the White Sox, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a distinctive style to our broadcasts,” Boyer said. He added that the end of Schriffen’s contract presented an opportunity to reassess the direction of the team’s broadcasts to best serve the organization and its fans.
Schriffen succeeded Jason Benetti, who departed after the 2023 season to join the Detroit Tigers television booth. During his tenure, Schriffen became known for his signature calls, including the catchphrase “South Side, stand up!” The White Sox expressed gratitude for Schriffen’s contributions and the rapport he established with their fan base, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
The team also announced it will initiate a national search to find Schriffen’s replacement for the television broadcast role. Meanwhile, the radio broadcast team will remain unchanged, with Len Kasper continuing as the lead announcer alongside Darrin Jackson.
