The Chicago White Sox are set to hire Matt Roffe as their new amateur scouting director, a source confirmed Thursday. Roffe previously served as the assistant director of domestic scouting for the Milwaukee Brewers, who won the World Series this year. While his official title with the White Sox has yet to be finalized, Roffe is expected to oversee the club’s domestic draft operations.

The White Sox have had the scouting director position open since early September, when Mike Shirley resigned following an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment. The move to bring in Roffe signals the organization’s commitment to maintaining a strong focus on amateur talent acquisition.

Recent draft picks have played a notable role in the team's sustained competitiveness. First-round selections such as Colson Montgomery (2021), Noah Schultz (2022), Hagen Smith (2024), and Jacob Gonzalez (2023) — who was later traded — contributed to Chicago’s playoff appearance this season.

In related roster moves, Chicago saw several players elect free agency, including pitchers Erick Fedde, Sean Newcomb, and Trevor Richards; outfielders Tommy Pham and Randal Grichuk; and catcher Jake Rogers. The club also reinstated infielder/outfielders Brooks Baldwin and Tanner Murray, along with pitchers Prelander Berroa, Ky Bush, Jordan Leasure, and Mike Vasil from the 60-day injured list. Despite these changes, the White Sox’s 40-man roster remains at full capacity.
