Georgia is attracting a growing number of travelers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, driven by enhanced accessibility and a wide variety of tourist experiences, according to tourism officials. Official statistics indicate a 3.4 percent rise in visitors from Gulf countries in 2025 compared with the previous year.
The summer season remains the peak travel period for visitors from the region, but authorities have noted a gradual shift toward more evenly distributed travel throughout the year. Maia Omiadze, Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, explained that while summer draws many travelers seeking relief from the Gulf’s high temperatures with Georgia’s cooler mountain air and green landscapes, increasing numbers are also exploring the country during autumn, winter, and spring.
Ease of access plays a significant role in Georgia’s growing popularity. Direct flights from the UAE and visa-free entry for Gulf nationals have positioned Georgia as a highly accessible international destination. Currently, local airlines operate 49 flights weekly between Georgia and the UAE.
Omiadze emphasized that convenience alone does not explain the rising interest. She highlighted the country’s diverse attractions, which allow visitors to experience a vibrant capital city, scenic mountain terrain, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and renowned local cuisine within just a few days. Promotional efforts, including partnerships with airlines, travel agencies, and digital marketing campaigns throughout the GCC, have also helped raise awareness and secure an increasing number of repeat visitors.
Though Tbilisi remains the most frequented entry point, other Georgian cities and regions are gaining traction among Gulf tourists. The Black Sea coastal city of Batumi attracts summer visitors seeking a mix of seaside relaxation and urban lifestyle. Mountainous areas such as Svaneti and the Greater Caucasus appeal to nature lovers interested in hiking and trekking. Additionally, wellness tourism is expanding, with destinations like Borjomi, Tskaltubo, and Sairme offering luxury spa resorts and therapeutic treatments.
Winter tourism has also witnessed steady growth, with snowy landscapes and ski resorts gaining popularity among UAE travelers. Georgia boasts four well-developed ski resorts: Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia, and Goderdzi. Gudauri is recognized as the country’s premier international ski destination, while Bakuriani is favored by families.
The Georgian National Tourism Administration continues to prioritize the GCC market, aiming not only to boost visitor numbers but also to encourage longer stays, repeat visits, and exploration beyond the most known tourist sites. Omiadze underscored Georgia’s appeal as a destination that combines authenticity, hospitality, safety, rich cultural heritage, exceptional gastronomy, and stunning natural beauty.
