The second season of Starz’s “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” has introduced a new character who becomes a romantic interest for fan-favorite Murtagh, played by Rory Alexander. The character, Grace Cameron, a maid in the Cameron household, appears in Season 2, Episode 2, titled “The Veil of Time,” which is currently streaming on Starz.

In the episode, Brian (Jamie Roy) and Murtagh travel to Castle Leoch to deliver news that Lord Lovat (Tony Curran) has rallied his forces to support the Jacobite cause. Their visit quickly escalates into a confrontation with Dougal (Sam Retford) and his followers. After Murtagh is wounded, Mrs. Fitz (Sally Messham) entrusts him to Jocasta Cameron’s (Sadhbh Malin) new maid, Grace Cameron (Ruby Fubara). The interaction between Murtagh and Grace leads to an immediate spark, observed by Jocasta.

Executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis discussed the decision to introduce a new love interest for Murtagh, citing the character’s previous heartbreak as motivation. Roberts described Alexander’s portrayal of Murtagh as someone in need of a fresh chapter, referring to him as “a puppy that needed a home.” Placing Grace within Jocasta’s world was seen as a natural way to expand the storylines.

Davis emphasized the exploration of Murtagh’s younger, more hopeful self, contrasting with the curmudgeonly persona familiar to viewers from the original “Outlander” series. She noted that the season seeks to uncover what shaped Murtagh’s character over time, including his capacity for love and optimism, which have rarely been depicted.

Grace Cameron is a new creation exclusive to “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” and does not appear in the main “Outlander” series. The character’s English accent adds an element of mystery to her origins, leading to speculation about whether she might share a connection to time travel, a core element of the franchise, or simply be an Englishwoman who has journeyed far from home.

Ruby Fubara, who portrays Grace, was praised by Roberts for her embodiment of the role, with the producer noting she “hit the ground running.” Fubara’s performance is expected to enhance the series’ romantic narratives. While details about Grace’s background and future role remain under wraps, Roberts hinted that the relationship between Murtagh and Grace will develop over the season and suggested the romance may have a tragic trajectory.

Grace Cameron’s introduction marks a notable expansion of Murtagh’s character arc, offering audiences new dimensions to a beloved figure while contributing fresh narrative threads to “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.”
