The Royal Mint has released a new collectable 50p coin to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the musical *Wicked*’s debut in London’s West End. The musical first opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006, and the coin launch marks two decades since its arrival on the London stage.

The coin’s design features several iconic elements from the production, including Elphaba’s hat and broomstick, Glinda’s wand and shoes, the Grimmerie spellbook, a flying monkey, and the Wizard of Oz depicted in his hot air balloon. These motifs capture key symbols associated with the show’s narrative and characters.

Available in multiple editions, the coins are priced from £15. Among the options is a gold edition, struck using recycled gold. The Royal Mint has announced intentions to produce all future collectable gold coins using recycled materials by the end of 2026, signaling an ongoing commitment to sustainability.
