Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes extended her overall lead at the Tour de France Femmes with a second consecutive stage victory on Tuesday, capturing the sprint finish of the 147.9-kilometer stage from Aigle to Geneva. Riding for Team SD Worx-Protime, Wiebes launched her decisive sprint approximately 200 meters from the finish and crossed the line with enough margin to celebrate before securing her seventh career Le Tour stage win—and her first while wearing the yellow jersey.

Italian cyclist Elisa Balsamo of Lidl-Trek finished second, followed by fellow Dutch rider and veteran Marianne Vos, 39, who took third place. Wiebes earned a 10-second time bonus for the stage, which increased her lead atop the general classification standings to 14 seconds over Mauritius' Kimberley Le Court. The defending champion, Demi Vollering, sits in third place, two seconds further back.

The stage unfolded largely as expected for the sprinters. After an early breakaway that was nearly caught by the peloton with 40 kilometers remaining, Dutch rider Riejanne Markus launched a solo attack and gained a one-minute advantage. However, the peloton, driven by Wiebes’ team, reeled her in with less than 500 meters to go, setting the stage for a fast finish.

Reflecting on her victory, Wiebes credited both her tactical timing and her teammates’ efforts, saying, “Winning in yellow makes it special but also because, again, our team worked really hard for it. The girls were chasing full, full gas in the final to bring back Riejanne, so it’s even more beautiful to finish it off in yellow.”

The race is set to continue with stage three on Wednesday, a 156.5-kilometer route from Geneva into France, ending in Poligny. The stage features a more challenging hilly terrain, marking the tour’s first entry into French territory.
